DescriptionThe Society of Professional Journalists, Fort Worth Pro Chapter, seeks an aspiring student journalist eager to spread the word of SPJFW-sponsored activities during a four-month term, including:

  • Coverage of social and news events sponsored by SPJFW via appropriate text, photo and/or video stories
  • Aggregation of news items pertinent to SPJFW’s digital newsletter, the eChaser
  • Publication and appropriate publicity of events on our website and various social media platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram

About Our Intern Program

  • The SPJ-Fort Worth Pro Chapter’s social media internship term for Fall 2024 extends from Sept. 15 to Dec. 15.
  • SPJFW offers a $1,000 stipend for each term, and the intern can expect to work approximately 15 hours per month for duties that may include attendance and coverage of weeknight events.

·         Interns may apply for and serve more than one term. 

  • The deadline application for the Fall 2024 internship is March 22, 2024.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate status at an accredited two–year or four–year institution
  • Earned credit in an introductory news–editorial course,
  • Upon hiring, a current membership in the Society of Professional Journalists (the student membership rate is $37.50 annually).

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Command of newswriting, spelling, grammar and Associated Press style
  • Good news judgment
  • Solid reporting skills
  • Openness to new ideas, new experiences and learning on the job
  • Ability to communicate effectively inside and outside the chapter
  • Proficiency in social media and an understanding of what drives interest on Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms
  • Familiarity with WordPress and newsletter publication
  • Familiarity with shooting, editing and posting photos and video

  2. A cover letter explaining your interest in working for SPJFW and describing how you can contribute to SPJFW’s mission
  3. Three published news clips (at least two text stories)
  4. Any classes, internships or evening jobs that may interfere with the internship requirements.
