Social Media: the Next Generation of Job Hunting

By the time you read this, the rules of job hunting will have changed. Again.
Social media have become a vital aspect of the process that will give an advantage to those who understand how these tools can stack the deck in their favor way in advance of the interview.

Social media expert James Snider with Accelerant Marketing Alliance will lead a discussion at the June meeting on using social media to prove yourself before you meet with the hiring manager. Snider will make simple sense of the potentially convoluted world of online job hunting by showing how LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and blogs can favorably position you and your talents.

This program is for anyone actively looking for a job, starting to organize the job hunt, or just wanting to put his or her best foot forward in the social sphere.

Prior to joining Accelerant, Snider was an independent marketing consultant. He also ran an international high-tech trade association and served as global strategic marketing manager over four product groups at Texas Instruments.

Time & date: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, June 28
Place: City Club, 301 Commerce St.
Cost: $25 members, $30 nonmembers, $20 students (online add $1)

Life After Layoffs: a Workshop

Think of this as a career’s worth of advice packed into five hours — professionals who’ve been there telling other professionals who just landed there how to get back up after being canned and where to find a job. Sessions will run the gamut, from financial survival and tuning your résumé to “Digitize Yourself” and “Journalism Isn’t All You Can Do.”

The workshop is Saturday, June 25, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the UTA Fine Arts Building, 700 Greek Row. Watch here for fresh details.

And mark the calendar for Saturday, July 30, and Fort Worth SPJ’s summer party at Paul and Harriet Harral’s elegant abode. Details forthcoming as they roll off the grill.
