He emphasized the importance and applicability of research in the public relations process. Texas Wesleyan Rambler faculty liaison/student media director Kay Colley has been selected for the 2011 Scripps Howard Academic Leadership Academy at the Manship School of Mass Communication at LSU this summer. The academy brings together mass communication professionals, scholars and seasoned administrators to share strategies and insights. Several past participants now hold leadership positions, including founding dean of the School of Communication at Loyola University Chicago and dean at Boston University’s College of Communication. ...
 
The TCU Daily Skiff, TCU News Now, dailyskiff.com and 11 student journalists who produce them received 18 SPJ Mark of Excellence awards April 9 at the Region 8 Spring Conference held at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Skiff photo editor Matt Coffelt and columnist Christina Aldridge and News Now reporters Maddie Foxx and Kim Little took first place in the MOE contest, which received nearly 4,000 entries for content produced in 2010, and advance to the national round of judging. Other TCU winners were Chris Blake, Kayla Mezzell, Katie Love, Courtney Jay, Julie Susman, Caroline Hardwick and Chance Welch. The Daily Skiff was awarded third place in the best daily newspaper category, News Now was third in best television newscast, and dailyskiff.com was third in best web site. ... Also at the Region 8 meet, The Collegian at Tarrant County College took first in two-year non-daily newspaper and first in two-year website. TCC students Shelly Williams, Joshua Knopp, Marley Malenfant, Nate Woeber, Casey Holder, Mackenzie Ashton and Jim Birmingham won 11 individual awards — two second place and nine first place. ... The Rambler at Texas Wesleyan won third place in best non-daily newspaper. Jonathan Resendez and Barry Grubbs received second-place awards. ... The Shorthorn at UTA was second in best daily newspaper. ...

The Texas Wesleyan Rambler received first place in overall excellence at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association’s 2011 convention March 31. Individual winners were Eliana Mijangos, Blake Sonuga, Jonathan Resendez, Angie Ruiz, Erica Estrada, Josh Grace and Meisa Keivani. Resendez and Shauna Banks earned honorable mention in on-site competition. TIPA includes community colleges and universities from across Texas; more than 500 students attended the conference in downtown Fort Worth. ...
