Greater Fort Worth PRSA will forgo the program format and cut straight to the food and fellowship at the annual networking event this month. Donations will be collected for the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
 
Bring a friend, a colleague or your favorite Aunt Rose as members and their guests toast the holiday season, enjoy the winter weather and bond right there on the spot. And don't forget the live music.

Meet Fort Worth's "ladies of grace and gumption" -- Amelia Rosenstein (portrayed by Hollace Weiner), Eleanor Schott (Katie Sherrod), Edna Gladney (Sherrie McLeRoy) and Flora Reeder (Susan Petty) -- at the TCU Press autograph extravaganza honoring Elmer Kelton, 4-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden building. Sherrod and Kelton will be among the authors signing -- Sherrod's latest book is "Grace and Gumption: Stories of Fort Worth Women" -- along with Judy Alter, Beth Alvarez, Paul Boller, Mike Cochran, Deborah Crombie, Merrill and Paul Donarrigo, Ron Hall and Denver Moore, Quentin McGown, Ellen Niewyk, Chuck Parsons, Sam Ratcliffe, William and Rosalie Schiff (with co-author Craig Hanley) and Carlton Stowers. Sherrod edited the book and did a chapter, "High-Heeled Times in the Newsroom." ...
 
Jingle mingle. The Association for Women in Communications and the Freelance Alliance will gather from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, high above the hustle and bustle in the Nana bar on the 27th floor of the Dallas Hilton Anatole, to celebrate the holidays and support Attitudes & Attire, a nonprofit agency that helps disadvantaged women seeking self-sufficiency. The American Academy of Neurology seeks journalists who exemplify excellence in medical/health reporting to apply for the 11th annual AAN Journalism Fellowship Award. Submit a written expression of interest (500 words tops), résumé, three print or broadcast clips on a neurology or any medical/science topic and a nominating letter from a senior editor, news director or producer. Write your way to Mongolia. Just compose a 300-word essay about a travel experience that moved you, excited you or changed you. The contest, for undergraduate and graduate students, is offered by National Geographic Traveler magazine and the global travel company Travcoa. The winner will go on assignment in Mongolia with National Geographic Traveler editor-in-chief Keith Bellows and have his or her story published on the National Geographic Traveler web site.
